"Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured."
What is Iyengar Yoga and why is it unique?
Anatomically importance is placed on the function and position of your limbs, spine and head. An Iyengar Yoga teacher has sequenced and timed the postures to suit the students they are teaching. That is why it is safe to practice Iyengar yoga if you have injuries or health problems, as individualism is allowed for. Iyengar yoga teachers undergo a strict and in-depth training of three years before they get their first certificate. Afterward, their training is ongoing according to standards set by the Iyengar Association and supervised personally by the Iyengars in Pune, India.
I have Junior Intermediate 2 teaching certification and am currently being assessed for Junior Intermediate 3 in the coming months.
The benfits of Iyengar Yoga are:
-improved physical and psychological health
-it helps alleviate postural/structural problems
-releases emotional tension
-increases focus and concentration
-increases your energy
-reconnects you with your body and breath
-brings intelligence and clarity to all parts of the body and mind.
Do not aim low, you will miss the mark. Aim high and you will be on a threshold of bliss.
The hardness of a diamond is part of its usefulness, but its true value is in the light that shines through it.
All games are meaningless if you do not know the rules.
It is through the alignment of the body that I discovered the alignment of my mind, self, and intelligence.
“Yoga does not just change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees.”

I started teaching because I am passionate about Yoga. From high school, through my pregnancy and as a maturing woman yoga is my foundation. I first studied yoga at Auckland Yoga Academy where I completed a three year apprenticeship in the 1998.
In recent years, I have frequently studied at the Iyengar Institute in Pune, India where I have had the privilege of attending classes by Shri BKS Iyengar and his family.
I use precise instructions as studied within the Iyengar system. Classes are safe, make use of props and are centered around a theme. My point of view is unique and holistic after years of study in the Ashtanga yoga, Iyengar yoga, Ayurvedic medecine and Macrobiotcs .
I am devoted to bringing the spirit of yoga and a love of meditation to all. A Yoga practice is an art and science to cultivate inquiry, build sensitivity and kindness to ourselves.

"From my perspective Jude’s Iyengar classes are like no other yoga classes I have attended. Jude has a multi-dimensional approach to her classes including: 1. Her impressive working knowledge of anatomy and physiology in its totality: this enables her to identify through observation, injuries and physical challenges that individuals face and in turn she helps individuals to adapt poses to meet our needs. I trust Jude to instruct me when I need to adjust something in a pose. This trust is really important to me and allows me to feel confident that I am not damaging any part of my body. Her focus on supporting individuals is not something that would necessarily occur in larger classes. 2. Compassion: Jude makes it very acceptable if we struggle with a full pose and she helps us both as a class and individually, to use props to enable us develop our strength and flexibility. She takes a genuine interest in people’s health and well begin. 3. Challenge: Jude continuously challenges us to go further and I can now take myself to places I never imagined would be possible. I know I have become much stronger as a result. Simultaneously, she encourages us to check our mindset and to integrate breathing with strengthening poses. Jude also continuously encourages us to be aware of integrating the whole body. As a result, I know I have worked hard at the end of each session but more than that, I arrive home with a sense of wellbeing. In summary it’s like doing a very active and focussed mediation integrating all part of the body, breathing and mind."
