About Jude

Ko Jude Folkard tōku ingoa.

Ko Ngāti Porou, ko Ngāti Kahu, ko Te Rārawa, ko Ngāti Whītī rāua ko Ingarani ōku iwi.

Tēnā koe,

I have been a Yoga teacher for 30 years.

Yoga Philosophy shapes my world view. Yoga is a lifetime of study and practice. The love of information and literature means I get to read books about Yoga and Ayurveda, amongst other subjects, and practice Yoga and Ayurveda in my daily life.

I have studied with Sri BKS Iyengar, Geeta Iyengar, Prashant Iyengar. Abhyjatta who is BKS Iyengars granddaughter, continues to teach Jude to this day.

I am a Yoga teacher, health educator, musician and artist. I collaborate with my husband Jeff in music, film and art installations.

Introduced to Yoga by my best friend at high school at 14 years old. At this very first class, there was feeling of having fun. The movements were simple. When I watched TV as an 8year old and witnessed footage of yogis lying comfortably on a bed of nails, this and my sisters book of poses is all I knew about Yoga when I first attended this class. Somehow my sister Wendy knew I wanted to know more and gifted me The Yoga Book. At University I experienced classes of learning how to breathe and meditate. This Yoga teachers’ teacher turned out to be a dear friend of my Grandmother. As is the small world of New Zealand where everyone imagines they know everyone else.

If you are looking for a Yoga book : The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali succinctly explains the practice and philosophy of Yoga.

I currently hold internationally recognised Yoga Certificates to teach Yoga at a senior level. I studied at Auckland Yoga Academy where I completed a three year Yoga apprenticeship in 1995. Equivalent to over 1500 hours training. I have sat seven yoga exams over the years, Yoga education is ongoing. There have been a multitude of yoga and self development and Yoga workshops completed over the decades.

I am a certified Ayurvedic lifestyle consultant and a Shiatsu massage and Macrobiotic Practitioner.

Health consultations can be had via appointment.

I studied Te reo, french and business studies at Auckland University.

I have recently completed three years of Te reo evening classes and wananga primarily at Te Herenga Waka ō Orewa marae and continue to study te reo to my best ability.

Yoga studies never end and I have had the privilege of studying at the Iyengar Institute in Pune, India where I attended Shri BKS Iyengar, Geeta Iyengar and Prashant’s yoga classes, and currently attend Abhyjatta’s classes via zoom.

Om Shanti. Tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā tātou katoa.

My sister and I, Raukokore.
